Floating Classroom: School & Group Program Booking

Bring Lake George Science to Life

Brief introductory copy explaining that LGA offers hands-on field experiences for K–college students, connecting students directly with Lake George, its watershed and the science used to protect it.

Then present the program choices clearly:

Floating Classroom

A hands-on learning experience aboard the LGA's Floating Classroom where students explore Lake George water quality, ecology and protection through scientific observation and sampling.

Stream Education

A field-based watershed experience where students investigate a Lake George tributary and explore how streams, surrounding land and human activity influence the Lake.

Floating Classroom + Stream Experience

A more comprehensive field experience combining both programs. Larger groups are divided, with one group participating in the Floating Classroom while the other participates in Stream Education, then switching.

A few things to know before submitting your request:

  • Program availability varies by season, staffing and group size. Submitting this form does not confirm a reservation.
  • Larger groups may need to be divided into smaller groups based on Floating Classroom vessel capacity.
  • Combined Floating Classroom + Stream programs generally require a longer field-trip window and transportation between program locations.
  • Schools should plan for approximately one adult chaperone for every 10–15 students.
  • Programs operate outdoors and generally run rain or shine; severe weather or unsafe conditions may require cancellation or changes. LGA Staff will determine cancellation as late as the morning-of a trip, depending on start time.
  • Final arrival/departure times and logistics will be coordinated with the LGA after your request is reviewed.

What Happens After You Submit

Once you submit your request, our Education for Action team will review your group size, preferred dates, program interests and other information and follow up regarding availability and next steps.

Submitting a request does not confirm your program or requested date. Your program is confirmed only after you receive confirmation from the LGA.

If you have an urgent question about an existing program, please contact Education for Action Manager Natalee Wrege at [email protected].

Insurance & Participation Requirements

Schools participating in LGA field programs will be required to provide appropriate proof of insurance before the program. If an approved Certificate of Insurance cannot be provided, signed LGA Activity Waivers will be required for each participating student and adult chaperone. These materials are not required to submit a program request. The LGA will provide complete requirements and instructions once your program is scheduled.

Planning Your Visit

Group Size & Supervision

Larger groups may be divided between activities. Schools should plan to provide approximately one adult for every 10–15 students, with at least one teacher who knows the students assigned to each group.

Transportation

Groups participating in combined Floating Classroom + Stream Education programming may need transportation between Shepard Park and the Lake George Recreation Center. Groups should arrive already divided as directed by the LGA, and final transportation details will be provided when the program is confirmed.

What to Bring

Students and chaperones should bring appropriate layers for potentially cold and windy conditions on Lake George, as well as sneakers or boots and clothing suitable for outdoor stream exploration. For full-day programs, participants should also bring lunch and a drink.

Weather

Programs generally operate rain or shine. Floating Classroom programming may be canceled or modified due to thunder, lightning, high winds, school closures or other unsafe conditions.

Cancellation Policy

The LGA currently requires 14 days' notice for cancellations. Cancellations within 14 days may incur a $100-per-day fee unless the LGA is able to fill the canceled date.
