Introducing the Next Chapter of the Lake George Association
For 141 years, the Lake George Association (LGA) has stood as the voice and guardian of the Queen of American Lakes.
Our story began in 1885 when a small group of residents came together to protect Lake George's fish, wildlife and clear water. What started as community stewardship quickly evolved into the nation's first lake conservation organization, founded on the belief that clean water is worth fighting for.
This 2026-2030 Strategic Plan represents the next chapter in our storied 141-year history. It strengthens what we do best - conducting independent science, fund on-the-ground solutions and engage with the community - while deepening our focus on advocacy, strategic partnerships and systemic change.
Our mission remains as clear as it has always been: To ensure the enduring protection of Lake George's water quality and clarity. Achieving this mission requires collaboration among scientists, policymakers, residents, businesses and visitors who are all united in listening to what the Lake tell us, then taking action and speaking up for its best interests.
Together, we are the Voice of Lake George.
What This Means For Lake George
This 2026-2030 Strategic Plan ensures that Lake George remains clean, clear and protected.
And not just for today, but for future generations.
It strengthens the work happening across the watershed while expanding the policies and partnerships needed to address growing threats at their source.
“Our Strategic Plan reflects the most focused and coordinated approach in our organization’s history. "We’re increasing our budget from $3.5 million to $4.5 million dollars, with additional investments supporting LGA grants, informing and engaging the community, and building out our advocacy efforts. By deepening these focuses, we will strengthen long-term protections and elevate Lake George’s importance locally, regionally and statewide.”

A Legacy of Protection
From the LGA's first watershed sanitation survey in 1889 to the launch of the Lake Impact Fund in 2024, the LGA has consistently turned science into action.
Milestones like the creation of state-wide policy to enforce Lake water levels, the introduction of the Waterkeeper program and the implementation of the Mandatory Boat Inspection and Septic Inspection Programs reflect a long history of protecting Lake George through collaboration, community engagement, strong science and sound policy.
