Floating Classroom Programs

Explore Lake George on the Floating Classroom

Since 1991, future generations of Lake Protectors have begun their protection journeys on board the LGA’s Floating Classroom.

These informative and interactive programs aboard the Rosalia Anna Ashby provides participants the opportunity to learn about the remarkable ecology and health of our Lake — and how to protect it — through hands-on activities and experiments.

What programs are available?

We offer two different programs aboard the Floating Classroom- All About Lake George and All About Water Quality.

Are reservations required?

Yes, reservations are required. No tickets will be sold at the boat.

How long is each program?

All About Lake George is two hours long and All About Water Quality is 1.5 hours.

Where does the boat depart from? Where can I park?

The Floating Classroom will set sail from the dock at the end of Lower Amherst Street. Check-in at the dock 15 minutes prior to your ticketed program time on the day of your trip.

There is no designated parking for the program. The electronic meters in the Village are $2 an hour. Please note: It is advised to download the ParkMobile app before coming to the Village. When the Village is busy the cellular signal/WiFi drops, and connecting and downloading can be very difficult.

Do you do school field trips?

We offer Floating Classroom field trips in the Spring and Fall, as well as during Summer Camps. More information can be found here.

Do I need to bring my own life jacket?

Life jackets are provided and required for everyone under 18. Adults are welcome to wear lifejackets, if desired.

Are programs operated rain or shine?

We do operate in the rain. In the event we need to cancel due to inclement weather, we will contact you by the email/phone you provided.

Is there a restroom on board?

We recommend using the restroom prior to boarding. There are public restrooms in Shepard Park. There is also an emergency restroom on board.

Are there any age requirements?

All ages are welcome aboard the All About Lake George program, however, we do not recommend the program for those younger than 8.

Participants must be 16 years or older for the All About Water Quality program.

I have more questions. Who can I contact?

For questions and general information, please email Lindsey Kenna at [email protected]

The Floating Classroom is made possible by long-time LGA members and ardent lake stewards Bruce and Mary Ashby, with the generous support of many other grants and donors.
