Support the LGA Floating Classroom

From September 15 through October 15, every gift to the LGA Floating Classroom will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $100,000, thanks to Bruce and Mary Ashby, their family, and friends.

A Vision Built to Last

Following the tragic sinking of the Ethan Allen in 2005, LGA Board member Bruce Ashby envisioned a vessel designed for safety, education, and service to the Lake George community.

Bruce rallied family and friends to fund the $250,000 vessel, working with Corinthian Catamarans and an LGA educator to create a safe, hands-on learning environment.
Launched in 2009, the vessel was named the Rosalia Anna Ashby in honor of Bruce’s mother, affectionately known as “Ma Ash.” Her values—love, respect, and hard work—continue to guide the Floating Classroom’s mission.

Lake George Becomes a Living Laboratory

Students explore Lake George and West Brook by testing water quality, examining aquatic life, and learning how activity throughout the watershed affects the Lake.

In 2025, the LGA Floating Classroom:

  • Welcomed 2,160 participants
  • Engaged 1,453 students and children
  • Delivered 103 educational programs
  • Served schools, camps, community groups, and adult learners
For many students, it is their first opportunity to experience Lake George from the water. That experience can inspire a lifelong connection to the Lake—and a commitment to protecting it.

“My family and friends are back at it again.”

—Bruce Ashby

More than 15 years later, the Ashbys are once again investing in the Floating Classroom’s future—and inviting the community to join them.

Your support helps keep hands-on freshwater education accessible and inspires the next generation of Lake protectors.

Make your gift by October 15 to have twice the impact.
