June 22, 2023 — A clearly committed group of 135 people from the Lake George area showed up for the LGA’s inaugural Lake Protector Summit, which ran from 9 am-11 am at the Fort William Henry Hotel & Conference Center.

In light of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Sackett vs. EPA on May 25, 2023, Lake George Waterkeeper Chris Navitsky says he will work more closely with municipal governments to protect wetlands that are no longer covered by the Clean Water Act or under Adirondack Park Agency jurisdiction.

Basin-wide septic system inspections are already helping to protect Lake George. Of the 26 inspections scheduled in April and May by the Lake George Park Commission (LGPC), nine septic systems passed, eight failed, three were substandard, and six could not be completed.

The hard launch of the LGA's Lake Protector™ web app on May 17, 2023, brought a flurry of positive press, and, even better, a large swath of new registrations for this digital tool that evaluates the physical characteristics of developed properties in the Lake George watershed and offers science-based recommendations to protect the Lake.

MAY 18, 2023—It was a high-energy, deep-commitment evening at The Inn of Lake George. The LGA’s first gathering of next-generation professionals in support of protecting Lake George surfaced strong connection to and sense of responsibility for the Lake. 

The Lake George Association (LGA) is excited to announce the launch of a web app that provides residential and commercial property owners across the Lake’s watershed with a detailed evaluation of how their property’s physical characteristics may be impacting Lake George. Accompanying the analysis is a personalized, science-based recommendations people can implement to protect water quality.

This is the first in a series of four articles in Lake George Living magazine to help us all understand the connection between septic systems and the health of the Lake and our community. Few family names are as synonymous with Lake George and its protection as Hawley. Now, that proud family tradition is entering a new era, as the Lake George Association has named Lake George native and longtime New York City publishing and digital marketing executive Nancy Hawley as Director of Marketing and Communications for the Lake’s preeminent protection organization.

LGA President Eric Siy urged Gov. Hochul and the New York State Legislature to significantly increase funding for the Lake George Park Commission during a recent interview on The Capitol Pressroom public radio program.

Continuing their effort to stop the first-ever use of a chemical herbicide in Lake George without proper scientific analysis of potential consequences, the Lake George Association and Lake George Waterkeeper today provided New York State regulators with detailed comments as to why the latest herbicide permit applications from the Lake George Park Commission are seriously flawed and should be deemed incomplete.

Lake George Mirror Editor Anthony F. Hall recently authored this report on the New York State Supreme Court ruling invalidating the Adirondack Park Agency’s 2022 approval of permits to treat 7.6 acres of Eurasian watermilfoil with the herbicide ProcellaCOR.

The Lake George Association has appointed environmental educator Jaimi DeFeo as Manager of its new Education for Action Program. This purpose-driven program is dedicated to helping property owners throughout the Lake George Watershed, as well as members of the regional business community and the public, understand the environmental challenges facing Lake George and how to participate in Lake protection.

New York State Supreme Court Justice Robert Muller has issued a decision prohibiting the use of the chemical herbicide ProcellaCOR in Lake George until such time that the Adirondack Park Agency holds an adjudicatory hearing on the potential adverse impacts and finds the proposed use to be safe for the Lake.
