On November 6, 2025, Lake George Association Executive Director Dr. Brendan Wiltse will join environmental leaders from across the region for a panel discussion titled “Lake Champlain Water Quality: The Fight to Control Harmful Algal Blooms.” The event, hosted at SUNY Plattsburgh by the Adirondack Explorer team, will explore the latest science and efforts to manage HABs in Lake Champlain and around its sprawling watershed.

If you’ve been out on the Lake recently, you may have noticed the water feels lower than normal. The Lake George Association has received numerous reports of boats unable to get off their lifts, exposed stream deltas and trouble docking. By analyzing over a century of Lake George water level records, we've found that the Lake hasn’t been this low at this time of year since 2001. This makes this year’s low especially noteworthy. 

As we prepare to host the 10th Annual Adirondack Champlain Regional Salt Summit on Wednesday, September 24, at Fort William Henry in Lake George, the Summit is already making news across the region.

Lake George has long been celebrated as “The Queen of American Lakes,” and national media is once again shining a light on why. In a recent New York Post feature, Lake George was highlighted as one of the country’s most swimmable vacation destinations, thanks not only to its clear and clean water, but also to the people and organizations dedicated to protecting it, like the Lake George Association and its community. 

When precipitation falls on the Lake George watershed, it’s easy to think of it simply as water making its way downhill into the lake. But the reality is more complicated. As this runoff moves across developed land, it collects pollutants from roofs, lawns, driveways, parking lots, sidewalks and roads. This runoff, carrying nutrients like phosphorus, flows directly into Lake George.

2024 marked the LGA's second Lake CleanUp Day - and it's becoming a signature event that's growing every year. Removing trash from the Lake and shorelines is one of the simplest, most accessible ways anyone can protect the Lake. Jane LaBombard, a multigenerational Lake Georgian, embodies what it means to be a Lake Protector. 

The LGA has opened applications for a new round of Lake Impact Fund grants: Stormwater Grants to help homeowners and businesses protect Lake George water quality.
