    Approximately 200 Attend LGA’s Road Salt Reduction Summit

    Approximately 200 elected officials, municipal highway crew members, business owners, scientists and not-for-profit leaders gathered in Lake George and online on Thursday, Oct. 13, for the LGA’s Seventh Annual Adirondack Champlain Regional Salt Summit. The day-long event provided presentations and demonstrations on keeping winter roads, driveways and parking areas safe while reducing the cost and environmental consequences of road salt use.

    Court Grants Preliminary Injunction on Use of Chemical Herbicide in Lake George

    New York State Supreme Court Justice Robert J. Muller today issued a preliminary injunction on the Lake George Park Commission’s planned use of the chemical herbicide ProcellaCOR in the Lake in an effort to control Eurasian watermilfoil. The injunction was requested by the LGA, Waterkeeper and fellow petitioners the Town of Hague and Lake George property owner Helena G. Rice.

    Court Considering LGA/Waterkeeper Request for Preliminary Injunction on Chemical Herbicide Use

    Oral arguments were heard in New York State Supreme Court in Warren County on Wednesday, June 8, as the LGA, Lake George Waterkeeper and other petitioners sought a preliminary injunction preventing the first-ever use of a chemical herbicide in the Lake this spring. The Court is expected to render its decision on the request by Wednesday, June 15.

    This is a sad day for Lake George. The Lake George Park Commission has abdicated its responsibility to protect the Queen of American Lakes by voting, by a margin of 6-2, to use a chemical herbicide, ProcellaCOR, in the Lake this spring despite a striking lack of independent scientific data about potential adverse impacts to Lake George water quality, human health, and aquatic plant and animal life.
